I have been wondering about question #3 for some time now. Using Amazon S3 on EC2 instances is not straight forward and more importantly not part of the basic Amazon configuration. I guess the EC2 team has good reasons to hold back for the time being... Vator.tv was indeed impacted by the outage, part of VatorNews working only thanks to our CDN.
